Netiquette

Netiquette is a set of standards in relation to using the Internet and the standards prescribe the correct behaviours. The term netiquette stands for Internet etiquette and essentially this is a set of rules that people follow when using the Internet. These rules will usually be relevant when individuals are using interactive services on the Internet, for example social media websites and blogs. It is important to realise that the netiquette that is relevant for one website community may not be the same for another website community. People that move away from or do not respect the netiquette are not always appreciated by people.

As previously mentioned the rules that will be regarded as the netiquette change between online communities. Whilst the internet does mean that people from all over the world can communicate, in many cases a netiquette will be based on country etiquettes that are in place in normal life. Some communities will govern the netiquette and attempt to ensure that all people contributing stick to this netiquette. Quite often the rules will focus on how people respond to other peoples comments and how they act within a community. There will usually be moderators in place in order to moderate the netiquette and ensure people stick to it.

In the majority of cases a netiquette will be relatively informal and within some communities it may not even be monitored. It will often be referred to as best practice rather than highlighting it as the required etiquette. On the other hand some netiquettes will be highly monitored and they will be very formal. People within a community that do not stick to the netiquette may well be subject to being blocked or removed from a community. The type of netiquette in place will depend upon the kind of community that is being participated in.

There is also a netiquette in place for many different blog websites; this will stipulate how blogs should be positioned and written. This will outline the style that should be used and the kind of content that will not be accepted.
